Hope for Cameroon aims to empower young IDP girls through the STEMpower IDP Girls Program. Our goal is to construct a training center that offers specialized ICT training and skills development to young girls, especially those displaced by the ongoing Anglophone crisis, which has left over 855,000 children out of school since 2016. By equipping these girls with digital skills, we're opening pathways for them to reclaim their futures and thrive in today's tech-driven world.
Since Cameroon's Anglophone crisis began in 2016, UNICEF reports that over 855,000 children are out of school. Majority are IDP girls facing dire risks of exploitation, prostitution, human trafficking and bleak futures. The current assistance offered to them are unsustainable and does not prepare them for the job market. This project seeks to annually remove 100 vulnerable IDP girls off the streets and empower them with essential ICT skills that will unlock opportunities to reclaim their futures
With your help, we will build an ICT training center to instil not just practical skills development that goes beyond the theoretical limits of the current academic curriculum, but also confidence in their technical abilities. We will furnish the center with adequate infrastructure (computers, software, reliable internet connectivity), provide targeted instruction and mentorship programs to foster a conducive learning environment, sustainable personal and community development.
This project aims to transform the lives of 100 IDP girls annually, offering them a ladder out of poverty through ICT training and skills development, thus equipping them for future employment and leadership roles. As these girls become self-reliant, they will not only support their families, but also mentor the next cohort of young girls. This empowerment will ripple and foster a society that values diversity and inclusion which is essential to a community that feels hopeless and neglected.
