Dear femLENS Supporters and Friends,

Thank you for generous donations!

In 2020 femLENS has already run a series of workshops with a group of women in Berlin, Germany, and is currently working with a group of young women in Narva, Estonia. As the climate for travel and meetings is not ideal right now - we are planning to continuing with our Narva group online. We hope that this will be a great practice run to work with more groups virtually. You can read about Narva (femLENS' home base!) on our blog!

Earlier in the year we hosted a photo exhibition in Berlin to celebrate the work of the different women who have participated in our documentary photography workshops over the last 4 years. We are also talking about a possible photo exhibition later in the year in Tallinn, Estonia. And we published the third issue of We See magazine, dedicated to the stories of our workshop participants! You can download all 3 issues on our website or order hardcopies from blurb.com.

We invite you to read the latest articles on our blog about the importance of women in visual storytelling, as well as women experiencing migration, and more!

Thank you for being part of these events!

Best wishes,
Jekaterina and femLENS Team

Until then - please stay safe and healthy.

Greetings femLENS supporters!

Time flies while one is keeping busy with workshops, exhibitions, networking and promotion events and publications! This year we have done 3 workshops with over 20 women from diverse backgrounds, and organised 4 exhibitions! And now we are working on our publication - We See magazine - helping the work of our workshop participants reach a further audience.

This year the femLENS volunteer team has grown from 3 people to 7 amazing women dedicating their time to write, design, promote and support women's voices and experiences, and enrich the photographic memory of the world.

We’d also like to take this moment to share with you a feature on femLENS’ work by Wanderful magazine.

Thanks to you and people like you, we have made tremendous progress towards meeting our funding goal for the workshops in Gaza. While we still have room to go, we wanted to take a moment to thank you all for helping us towards turning girls and women in Gaza into storytellers.

Your generous donations are helping to plan and implement the project in Gaza, and these photos will reach thousands of people through our social media community. But organising an exhibition in the community and across Europe will bring additional awareness to life in Gaza.

GlobalGiving is running a year-end campaign. Consider sharing your support for this initiative or making an end of the year gift and help us win bonus prizes from @GlobalGiving!

Our biggest goal for the first part of 2020 is to get into Gaza to run our workshops. Fundraising for a project like this is not an easy task, but getting into Gaza is even harder. We have spent the last few months trying to get an entry permit into Gaza through Israel, and have so far failed. However we will now concentrate our efforts on the Egyptian border, and will send you an update soon!

I want to thank you for your ongoing support and belief that women’s stories matter!

Wishing you a restful and happy holiday season.

Warm regards,

Jekaterina Saveljeva

Dear Friend and Supporter,

It's been some time since our last update, and we wanted to fill you on what's happening at femLENS these days.

While we are still fundraising and looking for grants to reach our goal of giving photography workshops to women in Gaza and then exhibiting that work in various places, we have started working on getting permission to enter Gaza.

Gaza is not like any other place we know of on earth. You cannot go online and find a simple visa application that you do online or take to the nearest emabassy. Gaza doesn't have an embassy, and very few people can navigate to an application form for a permit to enter Gaza. Some of those people are journalists, others are international humanitarian organisation workers. For everyone else - Gaza is a no-go zone.

We knew that it would be hard though, and have already found many willing people who are helping us navigate the obstacles put infront of us. And this makes us feel that our work there will be that more meaningful and important. Your support for this project makes us feel all this effort is important too. We thank you for that!

We hope that with our next update we'll be able to share some notes from the field! Meanwhile, please keep sharing our work with others who you think would be interested to know about it.

Best wishes,

Kate

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We wanted to reach out to update you on our progress!

We are still working on raising the funds for a series of workshops in Gaza, meanwhile working with a very diverse group of women in Berlin, Germany. Please take a look at our Instagram and website to see what we are working on.

If you would like to support us further, GlobalGiving is running July Giving Day on July 18 where they will match donations made on that day. Please help us reach our goal by sharing our campaign with your friends and networks.

Thanks for being with us.

Best wishes,

Kate
