Hi Friends,
Last year, a team of femLENS volunteers embared on an ambitious research project - to study the femLENS community through a survey. This week the survey report came it. Some have called the findings "shocking" others "illuminating, very important for our industry". As expected, women still find themselves discriminated on gender grounds, lacking access to resources and jobs, and a support system to get along in the photo industry.
The survey focused on women's experiences with photography and the photo industry, and more specifically on work/employment, finance, education access, community, activism, ethics and gender inequality. You can read a summary of the report on our blog or download the whole report here.
What does this report mean in general? femLENS provides important support and resources, as well as a platform and guidance into the industry. We still have a lot of work to do to make sure that women get to tell their stories visually, especially in places that are under-represented from the perspective of people guided by lived experiences, and over-represented by stereotypical portrayls.
We hope you will take a bit of time to read the whole report and continue supporting women visual storytellers!
Enjoy the summer.
Best wishes.
