MOHAN Foundation has 3 milestones in the last few months and we are thrilled to share the news with all of you!
1. MOHAN Foundation is delighted and honored that Dr Sunil Shroff, our Founder and Managing Trustee, was one of the next ‘Karamveer’ on KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI. The show telecasted on 9th October 2020 at 9 PM IST on Sony Entertainment Television (SET).
The Season 12 of KBC has added special ‘Karamveer’ episodes featuring passionate, committed individuals and organisations that relentlessly work towards making a difference for the betterment of the society.
And Dr Sunil Shroff is a ‘Karamveer’ in every sense of the word - this special man has dedicated his entire life to augment organ donation in the country. This is indeed a great step forward for the Foundation and organ donation in India.
The episode spoke about his journey and the genesis of MOHAN Foundation that has been working for the cause for the last 24 years.
A huge number of people that watched the program reached out to us on our Toll-Free Organ Donation Helpline, wishing to pledge, knowing more about our work and wanting to support our efforts. There were multiple patient queries as well.
2. On November 07, 2020, MOHAN Foundation partnered with World of Mohd Rafi Foundation for a soulful concert titled ‘Dostana Hamara’ featuring songs by the legendary singers – Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar. The songs were brought to life by the talented singers of Klub Nostalgia live from Veer Savarkar Auditorium, Mumbai and was streamed on Youtube for virtual viewers.
The event was initiated and led by Mr Venkitachalam N R who is known for conducting vintage musical live shows under the banner of Klub Nostalgia since the last 16 years. Klub Nostalgia was launched on December 23, 2004 and till date has dedicated 300 shows for different causes. The concert ‘Dostana Hamara’ was in aid of organ donation and MOHAN Foundation.
The funds raised through this event will go towards the Foundation’s efforts to increase the number of organ donations in the country to save the lives of those awaiting transplants. The concert had 2500+ views.
3. MOHAN Foundation also had an opportunity to host the International Conference of Transplant Coordinators 2020. The program has faculties from different countries who spoke about organ donation. The virtual event happened for two days and had 110 participants. The conference was all about sharing knowledge on organ donation.
April - July
MOHAN Foundation decided to rise up to challenge of these tough COVID times by launching a new initiative – “A Mission to Reach Millions – Concerts in Aid of Organ Donation”
In the 23 years of our journey, we have sensitised over 25 million Indians with the message of organ donation, and facilitated the retrieval and distribution of over 7,500 organs and tissues. Despite all these efforts, there are several patients that die while on the waiting list, because they couldn't get an organ on time. We need to reach out to millions more.
Hence, “The Mission to reach Millions”. As part of this initiative, we have been conducting a series of live online concerts in aid of organ donation with talented singers and musicians are giving their time and talent towards the cause of organ donation.
Our first such effort was a Carnatic music concert titled "Singing for Hope" by S. Aishwarya and S.Soundarya, followed by “ Singing for Joy” by the livewire Padma Shri Usha Uthup. We then had the faculty of Shankar Mahadevan Academy lend their melodious voices to the cause. More recently we had Ms.Aishwarya Srinivas performing for another Carnatic Music concert titled “ Singing for Positivity”
We have attracted huge numbers of listeners who were sensitized to the cause of organ donation by films played before the concerts and the artists talking about organ donation during the concert asking people to think about the cause, discuss with the family, pledge and make donations to the work of MOHAN Foundation.
Through the concerts, we have been able to reach close to 2 lakh people.
We will continue our have these live concerts to reach our goal of spreading awareness to millions of people about our life saving work. The team has also been conducting awareness sessions through zoom for various groups of people.

MOHAN Foundation has engaged in the last few months on Organ Donation Awareness across different cities.
MOHAN FOUNDATION held a Rangoli Competition to promote Organ Donation
The open air car park of the Thirumangalam Metro Station was transformed to an art exhibition area to promote organ donation. MOHAN Foundation organised a Rangoli Competition in association with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on 6thJanuary 2018 at the Thirumangalam Metro Station.
The theme of the Rangoli was (Indelible Designs) – Organ Donation. The participation was open to all. Chennai rangoli enthusiast wholeheartedly participated in the competition. There were 13 pairs of students from 8 colleges of Chennai and 26 pairs of older women who created beautifully thought out designs to bring out the concept of organ donation. Exciting prizes and gifts were given to the winners and participants. The youngest participant was 7 years and eldest was 62 years old. One participant came from Bengaluru. Both in student and adult category – there were 3 first prizes and 3 second prizes and additional special prizes. Nearly 100 people were present at the venue and many metro users came to see the rangoli.
MOHAN foundation awareness campaign at a NSS Event in a College in Chennai
Anna Adarsh College for Women, Chennai organised a guest lecture on Organ Donation as part of the National Service Scheme’s (NSS) valedictory function on 11th March 2020.
Dr. Hemal from MOHAN Foundation gave a lecture on the concepts of organ donation and explained the why, what, when and how of organ and tissue donation and transplantation.The students also benefited from hearing a donor family member share her experience. About 35 students signed up as organ donors and collected their donor cards. Similarly we were also a part of Queen Mary’s College Organ Donation Awareness where we spoke about the process of donation, allocation and transplantation.
Awareness session on organ donation at Jayanita Exports Private Limited in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh
On March 14, 2020 MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for the employees of Jayanita Exports Private limited in Greater Noida,UP.Two awareness sessions were held at two different locations for the employees of Jayanita - the first at the Jayanitafactory and the second at Jayanita Export Private Limited conference room.
Ms.Pallavi from MOHAN spoke to the employees about Basics of Organ Donation. She also brought out a point where age is never a barrier for donating an organ.She quoted an example of a newborn baby becoming the youngest ever organ donor. Despite living for even less than 72 hours, the baby saved an adult's life. Ms.Pallavi also helped the employees understand brain death through a short video. The topic of myths related to organ donation and shared misconceptions that exist among people were also brought to light for the employees.At the end of the session, close to 35 participants attended and 15 donor cards were picked up.

MOHAN Foundation wins at Grand Thornton SABERA
On December 4, 2019, MOHAN Foundation won two subcategory awards at the GRANT THORNTON SABERA (Social and Business Enterprise Responsible Awards). It won the NOT FOR PROFIT YEAR AWARD (below 5 crore) and the INITIATIVE AWARD for its National Organ Donation Toll Free Helpline in the Swasthya Kalyan (Health and well Being) Category.
MOHAN Foundation receives the NGO Leadership Award at Chennai
On December 16, 2019, MOHAN Foundation received the NGO Leadership Award in the Tamil Nadu Leadership Awards 2019 category instituted by World CSR Day, a for-purpose organization. The award is endorsed by World Federation of CSR Professionals, a not-for-profit that aims to make a real difference to the HR community, business and the economy.

Doha International Academy of Organ Donation invites experts from MOHAN Foundation for a three days workshop on Organ Donation, Doha, Qatar
The Doha International Academy of Organ Donation – Hamad Medical Centre, Doha invited Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation and Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation to the 10th year anniversary of the Doha Donation Accord with second activity of ROOTS program which is a collaborative international Qatari initiative aiming to Reach Out for Organ Transplant Self-sufficiency. Several world leaders in organ donation and transplantation were invited as international speakers. The three days workshop which was held from 8th – 10th November 2019 provided a platform for policy makers and ROOTS alliance countries to exchange ideas and raise awareness on ethical organ donation.
MOHAN Foundation participates in the 15th Congress of ISODP in Dubai
MOHAN Foundation participated and presented at the 15th Congress of the International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement (ISODP) held from November 14-16, 2019 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and hosted by the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation and the Emirates Medical Association Nephrology Society. The Congress was attended by Dr. Sunil Shroff (Managing Trustee), Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram (Country Director) and Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director)
12th National Annual Transplant Coordinators’ Conference in association with CMHS held at IIM, Ahmedabad
The Network and Alliance of Transplant Coordinators (NATCO), in association with MOHAN Foundation and the Centre for Management of Health Services (CMHS) - Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad organized the 12th National Annual Transplant Coordinators’ Conference at the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad campus on November 30 and December 1, 2019.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Let’s Collaborate,” with a focus on exploring public-private partnership options for organ donation in India. Experts from government, industry, transplant professionals and public health specialists were invited to be part of this focus discussion.
The 12th NATCO conference had close to 150 Transplant Coordinators, working in public and private hospitals, participating from across the country. Faculty included doctors, senior transplant coordinators, NGO heads and representatives, academicians, media professionals, corporate professionals, IAS officers and bureaucrats who shared their ideas and views on a wide range of topics.
MOHAN-Edelweiss organ donation drive #NoMoreWaiting culminates in Guinness World Record
On December 5, 2019, MOHAN-Edelweiss organ donation drive #NoMoreWaiting culminated in a press meet at The Oberoi, New Delhi where it was announced that Edelweiss has created a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD (low case) title for collecting the highest number of pledges for organ donation in a single day, following an impactful drive throughout November. While the awareness drive garnered over 1 lakh pledges during the month, the insurer created history by collecting 54,626 pledges in a single day on November 28, 2019
Earlier on November 5, 2019, Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance had joined hands with MOHAN Foundation to create awareness on organ donation and to encourage pledging for this important, life-saving cause when this campaign was launched in Mumbai during the meet,During this month long campaign, various activities that included digital media activations, PR, and on-ground educative workshops in educational institutions were undertaken. Talks conducted at IIT Jodhpur & IIT Ahmedabad by MOHAN Foundation were part of this initiative.
Actor-Director Rahul Bose agreed to be the brand ambassador of the campaign.
Ms. Pallavi Kumar summits Mount Kilimanjaro as her tribute to organ donors & their families
On October 03, 2019, Ms Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation summited Mount Kilimanjaro and unfurled a flag expressing her tribute to organ donors for their selfless act of giving a part of themselves to keep others alive. This is the highest such tribute by any Indian and perhaps from anywhere in the world. Last year, Pallavi summited the Everest Base Camp reaching an altitude of 5380 meters (17600 feet above sea level).This year she climbed higher 5756 meters (18885 feet above sea level) as she feels no tribute is too high for organ donors and their families.
Standing at a height of 5,895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak of Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain on Earth. Also known as the “Roof of Africa”, this colossal mountain is a part of the seven summits of the world.
Creating foot soldiers for augmenting organ donation in India
Training of Transplant Coordinators
Two training programs were conducted in this quarter. The first training took place in Gurugram from July 29, 2019 to August 2, 2019. 61 coordinators were trained. The other one was held in Pune from August 19, 2019 to August 23, 2019 wherein 30 coordinators were trained.
Masterclass in soft skills and communication for transplant coordinators in Pune
On August 25, 2019 one-day Masterclass in Soft Skills and Communication for Transplant coordinators working in the field of organ donation and transplantation in Pune was organized.
Innovative step taken by women of India for Organ Donation
In a unique initiative the Akhil Bhartiya Marwadi Mahila Sammelan of India, in association with MOHAN Foundation organized 18 rallies in total across various parts of the country on the 31st August 2019. There were 40 women who were part of the rally and every one of them also pledged their organs and received donor cards.
