Showcasing Best Practices at Inaugural Development Summit

More than 100 participants including 50 graduates of the SI4DEV Partners Training Program benefited from a series of workshops, panel sessions, networking and mentoring at the just concluded Community-Led Development Summit hosted by SI4DEV, Spring Development Initiative, and Clean Tech Foundation.

The summit aimed at helping to address the most pressing challenges in community-led development and offered an important opportunity to strengthen the capacity of participants in a way that ensures an evidence-based approach to implementing community-driven development projects.

Under the theme, Achieving Community-Led Development through Community-Driven Development Projects, the national summit aims to bridge this gap and empower participants with best practices in development. It brought together aspiring leaders in politics and business, students, government officials and policy makers, healthcare providers, educators, staff of public agencies or private corporations, as well as self-employed owners of social enterprises, civil society and faith based organizations from 16 states of Nigeria, the FCT and the United States.

The agenda included workshops, panel sessions, one-on-one clinics, mentoring tables and networking, all geared towards sharing the latest in community-led development, plus governance and accountability strategies for project implementation. Some of the hot topics were structured around sustainable Development Goals, Story-telling, grant writing and donor engagement, etc.

The SI4DEV Partners Training Program also graduated the 2018 class of partners, ambassadors and fellows at the event. The 6 months online fellowship program aims to create thriving and resilient communities, with focus on health, education, governance and enterprise. Using an ‘a la carte’ training model caters to the different capacity levels and learning styles of participants, it delivers experience and skills in core areas like team work, needs assessment, action planning, project management, evaluation, and sustainability.

SI4DEV Partners from various states also got to showcase their location group’s ‘learn-by-doing’ projects and micro-projects including advocacy campaigns, vocational training, voter education, handwashing promotions, up-skilling civil society groups and humanitarian outreach.

The event was the first of the kind in Nigeria and took place in Abuja from November 15th to 17th 2018.

National Workshop Summit: 2018 Class of Partners

The Spring Development Initiative is proud to present a workshop summit for community leaders, volunteers and other practitioners in the Community-Led Development (CLD) community in Nigeria by our affiliate organization, Strategy and Innovation for Development Initiative (SI4DEV).

SI4DEV is in the exclusive position of seeding a consistent CLD model across Nigeria and has put together this summit themed: A Pathway from Community-Driven Development Projects to Community-Led Development.

We’re inviting you to sponsor this event and or join us as a presenter or speaker for the SI4DEV inaugural workshop summit for shared learning, practice and inspiration.

For the past year, The Spring Development Initiative has been working with SI4DEV and the participants of their Partners Program at the intersection of behavior change, capacity building, impact and sustainability.

To celebrate the successful completion of the first half of this program, two hundred (200) SI4DEV Partners from across 30 States and the FCT will converge in Abuja, Nigeria from November 15 – 17th 2018, for three inspiring days featuring 3 key planks:

• Project Management and Performance Improvement Training – Breakout Sessions, Panels

• Action Planning for Impact, Sustainability, Governance and Accountability – One-on-one Clinics

• Motivation, Networking and Context – One-year Anniversary, Award Ceremony and Cultural Night

SUMMIT OBJECTIVES:

1. To improve the ability of SI4DEV partners to properly develop, manage and successfully complete community-driven development projects.

2. To share innovative strategies to better connect community-driven projects to local leaders – both government and traditional – for increased sustainability.

3. To review and finalize actionable tools that will help SI4DEV partners evaluate and improve the governance and accountability of their community driven projects.

About SI4DEV and the SI4DEV Partners Program

SI4DEV is a non-governmental organization registered in Nigeria to empower local volunteers at the grassroots who are in the process or are willing to take action to bring about positive social change in their community. The SI4DEV Partners Program trains potential community leaders on how to successfully implement community driven projects; how to effectively access resources to be able to deliver a better quality of life for local communities; and how to contribute to sustainable development.
