This class of community builders in Nigeria have devised and honed grassroots solutions with the input of local stakeholders and well accepted by members of the community. But our preliminary work with them has showed a gap in the capacity and funds necessary to maximize their efforts to create sustainable development and use evidence to base development work on. This program will offer the capacity, collaboration, research products and the funding support they need to improve their community.
Grassroots solutions devised and honed with the input of local stakeholders make the most impact, and are more sustainable. But our assessment of needs shows a gap in available resourcing needed to maximize our partners' efforts to create social change. These challenges limit potential business, policy and advocacy initiatives and their impact in their communities. Despite great ideas, their support dwindles, with no SMART objectives nor key indicators attract large grants and expand programs.
Building on lessons learned from these, this project provides a means for diverse partners to benefit from training, collaboration, mentoring, research and documentation tools, and significant sponsorship. Finally, we plan to develop a reproducible framework that local leaders can apply to systematically and successfully drive development and social change in their communities. We will impact direct beneficiaries with upskilling and indirect beneficiaries with resulting community projects.
In 10 years, we will impact 10,000 direct beneficiaries; we will also pilot development projects in 100 communities, thus impacting about another 3,000,000 people. This estimate is based on outcomes of the Inaugural class of the SI4DEV Partners Program launched January 2018. With $2,000 spent in the first 6 months, we have impacted 300 direct beneficiaries in 30 communities, and indirectly reached 10,000 people. We will achieve lasting results in governance, health, education, and enterprise.
