The funds raised through this platform since the last report were used for two sub-projects on the way to train rural youth in software development:
1. Financing of the coding club at Juru Secondary School: the actual number of the coding club members is 30, most of them in grade senior 5 (equivalent to 11th grade in other school systems). The students are really enthusiastic and made good progress. The goal for the next term starting in September 2025 is that new participants from the cohort below will enter the coding club, whereas students from the last period will start to operate coding clubs at other schools. In the next period, we will also support Juru Secondary School to extend the opening hours of the two smart classrooms we built last year for self study, also on weekends (Juru Secondary School is a boarding school where students are also present on weekends).
2. Financing of a three year vocatioinal training of the two students Jean Pierre and Patrick at "Akagera International School" in "Computer Systems Architecture". The support consists of school fees, fees for internships and accommodation, and the acquisition of two laptops that the students can use for the duration of the program. We are very proud that they ranked first and second in the exams at the end of year 1. Year 2 will start in September 2025.
In a parallel program focussing on tourism, we support two young women in a three year vocational training, also at Akagera International School. The tourism program is currently financed by own funds of Sustainable Villages Foundation.
