Many young Rwandans growing up in the countryside urgently need employment outside of agriculture. With Rwanda's strong digitalisation strategy, the IT sector has high employment potential, but skilled labour is scarce. This initiative supports the purchase of computers, IT training for teachers, mentoring for youth coding clubs, and scholarships for vocational IT training to prepare young people for the job market of the future.
Not all young people growing up in rural areas want to or can become farmers (due to lack of land). Fortunately, Rwanda has a strong digitalisation strategy. The IT sector offers great potential for employment. However, rural schools lack computers and qualified IT teachers.
We are working to systematically develop an ecosystem for IT training in the rural Juru sector of Rwanda through the following projects: 1. Establishment of smart classrooms in primary, secondary and vocational schools; 2. IT training programmes for teachers; 3. Promoting coding clubs in rural schools with qualified mentors from a renowned IT training centre in Kigali; 4. Scholarships to vocational schools for IT professionals.
The aim is to enable young people growing up in villages to be part of Rwanda's positive development. 1. Be well trained for the job market of the future; 2. Be able to compete with their urban peers; 3. Find decent paid jobs or start their own businesses and create skilled jobs; 4. Pass on their knowledge to others and the next generation; 5. Improve the overall education and income situation in rural areas.
