Summary

Our midwives deliver safe, gentle loving care at our clinics across Indonesia. Many have worked with us for years after completing a 3-year nurse-midwifery degree. The Indonesian government has changed regulations for midwifery training. All midwives must now have 4 years of study: the equivalent of a Master's Degree. This means even currently licensed midwives must return to school for an additional year of training in order to stay certified. Bumi Sehat needs funds to train 6 midwives.

Challenge

Midwives in our Bali and Lombok clinics deliver safe, gentle loving maternal health care. Many of them have worked with us for years after completing their three year nurse-midwifery degree. However the Indonesian government has set new regulations for midwife training. All midwives must now study for four years, not three. All currently licensed midwives working in Bali and Lombok must return to school for an additional year of training in order to stay certified or lose their qualification.

Solution

We need to raise funds to send 9 midwives back to school for an extra year. This way, they can keep their licenses and stay working as midwives at our clinics. Bumi Sehat won't need to take these funds out of our normal operations budget, which could impact the ability to deliver some of our other programs, including our outreach medical services, food boxes and scholarship program.

Long-Term Impact

Our Bali and Lombok-based midwives will retain their government certification and will have the additional up-skilling and training in order to teach junior midwives and new graduates in our clinics. Bumi Sehat's other services, such as the acupuncture clinic, outreach medical services to remote villages, food boxes and scholarship program, will not be affected.
