In Haiti, we train builders who work in the informal job market how to build homes that can withstand earthquakes and hurricanes. With our training and certification as good builders, it’s easier for these workers to join the formal job market, with its better opportunities.
Teaching the theory of disaster-resistant design and construction is not enough – we provide hands-on education, with blocks, mortar, roofing, and so forth, in our training center. Builders go out to job sites with practical experience in safer building techniques.
