This project will empower and support youth by providing them with resources and guidance necessary for them to excel academically and socially, as well as giving our youth exposure to outside opportunities. The TEEM Center will focus on working with 50-75 underprivileged youth in education, personal growth, health and wellness, and life skills to build self esteem and self awareness.
There is an unusual level of despair that our local youth display, including the lack of opportunities to explore their potential. Located in Lake county which is the poorest county in Michigan, there is a failing educational system which adds to the school drop out rate. There is low parent involvement, child homelessness, and social and economic inequalities due to the high poverty rate near 25% in this rural area.
The TEEM Center provides training, educating, equipping, and mentoring designed to provide solutions such as individualized and customized classes that fill in gaps of the local school's curriculum. Health and wellness information sessions will increase awareness in nutrition. We will provide skilled trades training, financial literacy classes, musical and arts programs, one on one and group coaching sessions, and field trips to expose rural youth to city cultural sites and events.
The project will increase self awareness and self esteem to a projected 50 or more local youth. Our customized learning, coaching, and activities programs will expand the learning capacity of our youth, encourage personal growth, and equip them to function effectively in today's society.
