Young people in high-density (poor) quarters of Harare, Zimbabwe face various challenges in developing their lives. To start as a small entrepreneur is the only chance for most of them. People without school degrees have to use their hands here in order to survive. But where to get the skills from? And which skills are needed next to the obvious technical skills (for example Dressmaking or Welding)? At our Kuwadzana Skills Training Centre, we are also training our students in life skills.
Early school dropouts in the Kuwadzana quarter of Harare in Zimbabwe is a big challenge to most youth mostly those from extremely low income earners hence there is need for practical skills for such target group in order for them to make a living. They lack technical skills to start a business and most of them also lack basic life skills (communication, team work, public speaking and leadership).
We are training young people in technical skills and life skills for them to become more economically successful and to lead happier lives. Our centre offers courses in Dressmaking, Interior Decor, Welding and Preschool Teachers training from Mondays to Thursdays. Every Friday, we offer special life skills training (communication, team work, sexual and reproductive health, public speaking and leadership) and other trainings in entrepreneurship, sports, theater, lobby and advocacy.
To be able to live prosperous and happy lives. The project if funded will enable 100 young people to engage in peaceful income generating activities rather than in anti-social activities. If we train youth in entrepreneurship, we reduce dependency by youth to their parents and the country's economic crisis out of their own effort as business minded entrepreneurs. Further, our trainings encourage citizens to be peacefully minded and enable them to live in harmony with each other.
