Help us train 100 young people in Mozambique and Eswatini to become skilled ecologists with a strong conservation ethic. To improve the wellbeing of our planet we need capable young professionals who care an awful lot. Nowhere is this more needed than in Mozambique and Eswatini where population growth and rapid development threaten a global diodiversity hotspot. Students are carefully selected and trained at two field research centres for 1 year in partnership with local universities.
Mozambique and Eswatini are biodiversity hotspots of global conservation priority. Skilled local ecologists are sorely lacking. The result is few locals can participate in conservation research, planning and action. This erodes the local support for conservation with dire consequences for the future wellbeing of communities and the wildlife on which many depend. Quality field based education of local ecologists is desperately needed.
This project will train 100 Swazi's and Mozambicans in conservation and field ecology. It will develop skilled local field ecologists with a conservation ethic and scientific understanding. It will engage them in cutting edge field research, network them with international researchers and empower them to become proponents of conservation. It will fill the skills gap to improve the conservation of these fragile and important eco-systems and contribute to a more sustainable planet.
This will build human capacity in Eswatini and Mozambique to conserve biodiversity. It will influence others in the region to do the same. It will enable local citizens to actively participate in and lead conservation efforts in their region. This will improve the conservation of biodiversity in this important region. It will improve the sustainability of the planet for the wellbeing of humanity.
