(APRIL -JUNE 2025)

INTRODUCTION                                                                                                                                                                           WOMEN INTIATIVE through the support of THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF GARISSA-KENYA  was able to carry out the planned activity during this 2nd quarter of 2025.Despite several challenges the organization remained focused with its planned activity. The quarter visited the Boys school of orphans which we experienced some gaps intern of equipment i.e. First-aid Kits and Disposable dressing packs as there were a lot of fresh wounds post football that the team lacked. The organization is humbled by the support accord to the community through WOMEN INTIATIVE. It is our wish that THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF GARISSA-KENYA will   enable us to reach more clients for diagnostic services. WOMEN INTIATIVE appreciated the support from THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF GARISSA-KENYA  which is our major enabler.

The following activities were carried out during this quarter; -

  1. Integrated outreach within  the hard to reach community
  2. Medical camp to school of orphan Boys at Raya center
  3. Community health forum to women of child bearing age and TBAs at Burburi center on Reproductive health challenges/ prevention of FGM.

TBA REFRESHER COURSE /TBA KIT REPLENISHMENT /FGM FORUM

The forum was facilitated by Sheikh Abdirahman a religious scholar and 2 Senior Nurse from WOMEN INTIATIVE the participants were taken through safe motherhood initiative; -

Early health seeking behavior for all pregnant mothers

Women were brain stormed on dangers signs in pregnancy and all stages of pregnancy skilled delivery was encouraged as any life threatening situation can happen during home delivery, where emergency services are not available only precipitate delivery can be attended by TBAs as emergency.

The participants were sensitized on high number of sexual gender based (SGBV) violence reported in Garissa. This includes Rape, defilement and FGM. The participant was informed of harsh legal punishment and no alternative justice for such crime hence participants were warned any FGM reported you will be jailed. The sheikh sensitized the women on Islamic perspectives on SGBV, the sheikh mentioned the religion does not allow any harmful practice on girl child and women. He mentioned FGM is a bad tradition and not Islamic obligation.

This should stop, give girls education, good health and they will prosper like the boys he warned no one should use the name of religion to practice vice.

The participant appreciated the sheikh information, they promised to spread the same message to fellow women at the villages.

Challenges

Organization lacks donor support towards MCH programme

Escalation of commodities (drugs and laboratory reagents in absence of funding support

WOMEN INTIATIVE HEALTH CARE has laboratory microscopy not functioning well.

No support for WOMEN INTIATIVE HEALTH CARE tailoring project – girls graduated but no donor support for – sewing machine and startup material.

Recommendation

There is need of supporting WOMEN INTIATIVE  MCH laboratory, to deliver the microscope which is very important for the community we serve.

There is need of linking WOMEN INTIATIVE to other potential partner .

There is need of reviving WOMEN INTIATIVE tailoring school support as this serves most vulnerable group in the community (adolescent)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Reported by
