Tools & Seeds fulfill Nutritional Needs

The community gardens in Ampil Commune have been so successful since their inception. The local community have learned how to how and plant and tend to their gardens. they have seen them flourish and bloom.  With the success of their gardens, they have been able to feed the children in our breakfast program and sell the excess to local markets. They have increased their income and and are breaking the cycle of poverty.

We have been fortunate to have this program fully funded.  So until we duplicae the program in another commune, we are suspended the fundraising effort.

Our group of Atlas Club students from South Carolina, visiting CCDO for  a week, were so impressed with our community home gardens.  The group insisted on getting in with the action. They till the land and used primitive methods to make the rows.  they then dropped in the seeds of morning glory and other vegetables into the created rows.

The trick was getting buckets of water to wet the ground to ensure the gemination of the seeds. Most of these sophisticated 18 year olds, had never experienced planting.  They were amazed at the crops that we grown, all pesticide free, by the community.

Promises of photos to be taken when the crops start sprouting in the next few weeks.

The 10 family community gardens in the Ampil Commune continues to feed the schools and also provides and income for these families.
