200 Thatched outhouses from palm-fronds, have disintegrated due to the harsh weather conditions and need to be rebuilt with sturdy bricks. The 6 year old outhouses have virtually disappeared, making the toilets unusable and the community is now practicing open field defecation.
The CCDO started building thatched outhouses in 2013 and in the ensuing 6 years, we have found that many of the original outhouses have disintegrated due to harsh weather conditions. There is a 6 month wet season with many floods. The ceramic toilet bowl and tiles remain, but the protection of privacy as well as from the elements have disappeared. The "private" house is no longer "private", but open to the elements.
This project rebuilds the outhouses with sturdy brick and ensures the long-lasting effective toilet outhouse that protects the user from the elements and any pests or snakes. The existing ceramic bowl and cement floor to be used. The community will return to using the toilet and stop the open field defecation which destroys the water table with E.Coli.
Better and improved health for the community. The water table is then no longer contaminated and the family can safely use the toilet with dignity.
