Our project "Together For Education In Guerrero after Otis" aims to augment the quality of education by way of integrating technology into the classrooms of schools in the state of Guerrero affected by hurricane Otis in October of 2023.
In October 2023, Hurricane Otis devastated Acapulco and its neighboring towns, causing physical damage and disrupting the educational infrastructure, impacting schools and their essential resources for teaching and learning, and significantly altering the lives of the people in Guerrero. Currently, there's a waiting list of over 37 schools eager to receive UNETE's programming at their school. Each school has formally requested UNETE's intervention, highlighting the urgent need for support.
This project is structured around a model designed to promote digital equity and elevate educational standards through two key components: the provision of technological equipment for media classrooms and the implementation of a teacher mentoring program. These components are poised to have a lasting impact on multiple generations of students and teachers, ensuring a sustainable educational transformation within the communities surrounding these schools.
This project will meet the needs of the education system in Guerrero, Mexico at this moment and will reinforce the capacity for teaching and learning for future generations to come. By training teachers in the use of technology for educational purposes, we ensure a reproducible impact on the students, year after year. As students continue on through school, teachers will act as critical agents and continue to teach for the 21st century needs of the future generations of children in Guerrero, MX.
