Adrián is a 5 years old indigenous boy who lives with his parents in a community called El Epazote, in the Municipality of Rayón, in the State of San Luis Potosí. He is a very cheerful and lively child. Everything was happiness, until ... in December of 2015 Adrian began to feel stomach pains. In that community, people heal with infusions and herbal poultices that a healer prepares. The boy felt better, but in February, the pain continued so his parents chose to take him to the health center where they do some studies and find that it is a liver problem. Because the community where they live is very small, they refer to the Rioverde hospital, another larger municipality with a better hospital.
Already in Rioverde, they do more medical studies and determine that he has a probable tumor, but there is not the infrastructure necessary to attend to him so he is transferred by ambulance to the emergency area of the Central Hospital of San Luis Potosí where they perform x-rays, ultrasound, laboratory studies, tomography and biopsy. They interned him, since a Wilms' tumor was confirmed. On February 11 begins his first chemotherapy.
Adrian's mother is in great distress thinking about how she will continue with the treatment of her son, so far from her community and without knowing anyone. For that we exist, for that there exists our association that daily visit the Central hospital, where we realize the new cases and offer our help.
We told Mrs. Juana Maria that we provide lodging, food, we will pay all medicines requested, that the Popular Insurance does not cover, we provide emotional support, spiritual, we have a school classroom so that Adrián does not lose continuity school, we have painting classes, crafts and an empathic and very cheerful atmosphere where they will feel welcomed, understood and loved. This comprehensive support is important for successful treatment.
In our country, more than 5000 new cases of childhood cancer are reported annually and represents the greatest cause of death in children and adolescents from 5 to 14 years. Currently, 60% of these patients regain health, but efforts are being made to increase this figure. As well as Adrian, we have 459 other beneficiaries who need our support and thanks to generous people, we managed to cover the expenses that this entails. We will be telling our experiences and attending to more children and adolescents.
From the AMANC Center, which is his second home, Adrian struggles every day for his life without leaving aside his joy despite the difficulty of his treatment. With the help of everyone, we are sure that you will achieve your recovery.
