I am happy to report that,at the time of writing, our self help groups are eagerly preparing for an exchange visit, the first in 3 years thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Here ladies from different groups in different areas will get together to share business ideas, stories of what they have achieved with the loans they have taken from their groups, and renew friendships. These days are the highlight of the year for many, and the group hosting the event will be busily preparing food for a large number of people. I will report on this event, and share some photos in my next report.

At the end of each year, we try to have a Learning and Sharing Event at Thusanang where members of all our groups get together to share information and learn from one another. In 2020, this event had to be cancelled and last year, we decided to hold 2 smaller events because of Covid-19 restrictions. The ladies reported that they far preferred the smaller event as they were able to share more easily and almost everyone had an opportunity to speak. We have, therefore, decided to hold 2 smaller events again this year. These will be at the beginning of December and members are already looking forward to those days, and collecting stock to exhibit and sell their wares.

In my last report I wrote a little about income generating businesses but because we know that the only way for members of the SHGs (Self Help Groups)  to improve their standard of living, is to have some income generating business, I decided to include more photos about some businesses which our members are running. I recently went to Sekororo to see what businesses these ladies had, and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of things they are doing. There are ladies selling snacks, hot chips, kota, making beads, mats and brooms, doing upholstery and raising chickens and growing vegetables.

This year we have been able to start 32 new Self Help Groups which means that this programme is successful and we would like to thank all our donors most sincerely for your help. Please continue to donate to help rural women help themselves!
