By Ann Luther | Project Leader
We have had some exciting new developments affecting our Self Help Groups recently. We appointed a new Project Officer, Asnath, to look after the Bolobedu groups, in August. Vivian will continue to look after the other groups and will spend more time on training and First Aid at Thusanang. We welcome Asnath and hope she will be very happy working at Thusanang. Our Community Facilitators have been hard at work starting new groups and encouraging old ones to start small businesses.
Vivian, Asnath, Tebogo and Kagiso recently attended training in Pietermaritzburg. It was mostly about the next level of SHG work, forming Cluster Level Associations. Here the emphasis moves from "Me and My Family" to "Me and My Community". We are very excited about the possible formation of 2 CLAs in different areas this year. At this level, the members of the groups will lobby for different needs in their communities, whether they be physical, such as the need for a clinic, or information sharing, such as the extent of Gender Based Violence in their community.
For the rest of this week, the GlobalGiving "Little by Little" Campaign is under way. GlobalGiving will match, with 50%, any donation up to $50. Please consider donating now as we stand to increase any donations made in the next 2 days, by 50%. That will really help our Community Facilitators.
I will introduce 2 more of them in the next report.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
