40 kids assist to the School of Celia and Pepe, aged from 4 to 18. All have language disorders, mainly originated by autism and rare diseases. To ensure inclusive, equitable quality education, we create individual programs with therapies during the classes. This innovative methodology aims at reinforcing their cognitive abilities and to foster the learning process. In this specific project we are providing a total of 1.121 individual sessions of Cognitive Stimulation during school year 23- 24.
In general, there are at least 2 kids with learning difficulties in each school classroom. This is in many cases, due to a language disorder that has not been diagnosed. Language disorders have direct consequences for our cognitive and social development, and our ability to learn. In the case of rare diseases, making decisions on treatments and strategies of education, is even more challenging, confronting medical professionals and teachers in special education daily. We have a solution.
The Celia and Pepe School, is an inclusive and holistic school. We have adopted and adapted several teachning methodologies and have in addition, successfully incorporated therapies in the classes aiming at reinforcing their cognitive abilities and fostering the learning process. These therapies include Logopedia, Handwriting without tears, Occupational therapy and Sensory stimulation, Cognitive stimulation, Emotional Intelligence, etc. .
Our school has showcased that there is a big difference between providing the same educational opportunities to all - meaning giving everybody the same tools to learn-, and providing equitable educational opportunities to all - meaning giving each one the specific tools they need to learn. Until today, already 10 children have returned into ordinary school, after spending only two or three years with us. Many kids flourish at the Celia and Pepe School like they dont do in other schools.
