Financial Education for underprivileged children

The program was implemented in 16 schools and 22 campuses, directly benefiting 3,707 students and 118 teachers and coordinators, and indirectly benefiting 5,561 parents.

The project benefited children and youngsters from elementary school to high school. Of the total number of students, 54% are women and 46% are men.

The initial training for the 2021-2022 school year was carried out virtually, attended by 67 teachers and coordinators, from the 16 schools that implement the project.

We achieved:
• 100% of the teachers received initial training to identify the contents, methodology and materials used in the implementation of the program.
• 65% of teachers took the training synchronously and 35% asynchronously.
• 3 hours of training were provided for teachers at the beginning of the school year and individual advice to answer questions.

Both teachers and students have a work guide, which allows them to acquire the knowledge and develop the expected learning. 2,097 delivered

The Diploma for teachers was created, it consists of 3 modules, each one lasting 10 hours.

This school year, 5th grade students from different schools participated in online workshops entitled "If we have goals to save, we'll start." The workshops strengthened the financial education and health skills of the students. During the workshop, the students were motivated to set goals and define strategies to achieve them, and through a series of dynamics, they identified savings as an ally to achieve their goals.

We carry out an evaluation at the beginning and end of the school year in order to identify the learning that girls, boys and young people have acquired in the Save and Undertake project. Both the design of the evaluation and the analysis of the results were carried out by specialists from the Center for Evaluation and Social Innovation (CIES).

Of the total number of students participating in the project, 73% (1,293) make financial savings, 13% make savings in kind, while the remaining 13% do not make savings of any kind during the school year.
Among the reasons why some students could not make financial savings is mainly the lack of economic income at home.

73% (1,293) of students set a financial goal and practice saving by making a record throughout the project.

97% (1,722) of the students recognize the importance of saving as children, while 3% (53) do not recognize the concept or the importance of saving.

97% students make decisions oriented to financial health at the end of the school year.
Of the total number of students participating in the project, 93% (1,633) recognize the difference between savings and need, allowing them to follow their budgets to achieve their financial goals. 7% (142) do not recognize the difference between desire and need.

93% of students reach a minimum level of financial knowledge, budgeting and definition of in-kind and monetary savings goals

59% (383) of students reach 60% of their short-term financial goal.

Of the total number of benefited students, 92% (598) consider that Save and Undertake has a positive impact on their lives, while 8% (52) consider that Save and Undertake is not relevant in their lives.

The project is aimed at boys, girls and young people from 6 to 18 years old who attend primary, secondary and upper secondary in schools of the EDUCA NETWORK. The 15 schools are located in Mexico City, Chiapas, the State of Mexico, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León and Querétaro. Of these schools, 13% are in areas with a very high and high degree of marginalization, 60% are between a medium and low level of marginalization and 27% in areas with a very low level of marginalization.

Ahorra y Emprende is implemented in 14 schools and 15 campuses, directly benefiting 103 teachers and coordinators, 3,025 girls, boys and young people, and indirectly 4,538 parents.

The project benefits girls, boys and young people at the primary, secondary and upper secondary levels. The children's section that considers the participation of primary school students has a total of 1,775 students and the youth section that integrates secondary and high school students has a total of 1,250. 55% are women and 45% are men.

Initial training for coordinators and teachers
The initial training for the 2021-2022 school year was carried out virtually, attended by 67 teachers and coordinators from the 15 schools that implement the project.

The training lasted 3 hours, with the objective that coordinators and teachers knew the structure, methodology and operational planning, as well as the structure of project I. During the session, the dosage of the sessions was reviewed considering the 4 stages of the methodology by projects, reaching the knowledge, practices and attitudes corresponding to the competences to be achieved in project I.

For the teachers who could not attend the virtual session, the video of the training was shared with them for their study and attention to the indications and agreements, closing the doubts with individual sessions.
