773 Dance Project's mission is to provide professional-level dance classes, workshops, and performances to Chicago communities on the South and West sides. Access to arts includes those who participate and those who facilitate. This Project will allow us to renovate our new dance studio, offer dance classes for free, and still be able to pay our teachers a competitive wage.
Access to fine arts is often limited to neighborhoods on Chicago's North side and downtown, excluding many individuals from underserved and low-income areas. Fine arts are essential for promoting self-expression, creativity, and cultural exposure. Getting to these spaces by public transportation is often extensive and expensive. The total population of Chicago's South and West sides is more than 400,000 individuals.
By offering free classes at easily accessible locations across Chicago's South and West sides, we create opportunities for individuals to engage in fine arts without causing too much financial strain. These locations are accessible by walking, bus, or train and will be in public parks, allowing admission to all who want to come. We want to make sure the space where we are holding these classes is suitable, with up-to-date, sprung floors, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and stable ballet barres.
This project will host at least 500 individuals and offer them access to professional-level fine arts. Through these dance classes, individuals will experience an increased sense of self, a sense of community, and an understanding of their own culture. They can implement these characteristics in future endeavors, from school, work, or personal growth. We are also offering a space for artists to practice while being paid a competitive wage.
