Progress Report: The STEM Hub Lab Project

The STEM Hub Lab Project aims to establish a standard five-compartment laboratory equipped with all necessary apparatus for practical classes in Science and Technology subjects, supplemented by an online portal offering practical skills videos, text resources, audio materials, and pictures. The project includes the construction of a 100 seating capacity laboratory, divided into five compartments that can accommodate 20 students each, enabling 100 participants to engage in learning simultaneously.

The project encountered significant setbacks due to an arson attack on our office and the community resource center, which disrupted our planned activities between June and August 2024. Despite these challenges, our dedicated team successfully facilitated a training session on basic computer literacy for 50 junior secondary school girls from St. Francis Junior Secondary School in Adekaa Gboko.

During the training, five participants shared their aspirations regarding the STEM Hub Lab Project, expressing how it would provide them with vital access to the digital world and STEM education.

We would like to extend our gratitude to GlobalGiving for their continued support in providing a platform that fosters social initiatives to empower young girls in the rural community of Gboko.

The introduction of STEM education for girls is essential in breaking the gender divide in science fields. We call upon the international community to sustain their support for the STEM Hub Lab Project, particularly as we work with the Benue State government to advocate for the integration of a comprehensive STEM curriculum.

Moving forward, we will continue to advocate for the upgrading of the school curriculum to align with STEM standards, empowering female students to confidently pursue and excel in science courses and careers traditionally dominated by men.

Our commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable STEM education environment remains steadfast, ensuring that young girls have the resources and support necessary to thrive in these fields.

We appreciate the ongoing support of our partners, stakeholders, and the community as we work together to realize the full potential of the STEM Hub Lab Project.
