Black trans people face poverty, housing instability, and violence at alarming rates; yet remain among the most underfunded communities in philanthropy. The Okra Project delivers direct relief: grocery vouchers, housing and utility assistance, hygiene and health products, ride share access, and mental health support to 800+ Black trans constituents annually. Your gift keeps life-saving programs running and ensures our community has what it needs to survive and thrive.
Black trans people face compounding crises; poverty, housing instability, unemployment, and violence at rates far exceeding the general population. Yet they remain among the most underfunded communities in philanthropy. Without consistent, targeted support, survival itself becomes the daily mission.
The Okra Project delivers five direct-service programs: grocery vouchers, hygiene and health products, rental and utility assistance, ride share access, and mental health support vouchers; meeting Black trans people where they are with immediate, dignified relief. We remove barriers, not just acknowledge them.
When Black trans people have stable housing, food, and access to professional resources, they build lasting economic independence. The Okra Project's wraparound model moves constituents from crisis to stability, creating a generation of Black trans people who don't just survive, but lead.
