How do you help a young girl from remote rural China make something of her life when she has missed most of her schooling? She may dream of an early marriage to a good husband, but more often, will find herself becoming the subject of abuse due to her total dependency. Help us change that. MY FIRST JOB is an intensive 6 month program training girls as assistant chefs, provide them with a "safe" first job, then track and mentor them for 2 years. Donations receive a U.S. 501(c)(3) tax receipt.
In remote rural China some girls are stuck having missed most of their schooling. A mixture of poverty and traditional preference for boys, some girls (especially the eldest) are pulled from school to support ageing grandparents and keep younger siblings in school. For these girls, they hope for a good marriage. Unfortunately, desperation will result in poor decisions being made: criminal activity, drugs, teenage pregnancy, prostitution, or falling victim to the horrors of Human Trafficking.
The MY FIRST JOB program is about joining the dots - getting these girls into a good, safe, first job - a better job than would otherwise be possible. MY FIRST JOB will provide intensive vocational training aimed at future employment as assistant chefs - a job considered one of their best options. A girl will be provided with 6 months of cooking & restaurant instruction, job placement with a "safe" employer, and ongoing guidance and support for 2 years tracking their progress.
This program will give a girl the start she would otherwise only dream of. She will still need to work hard and apply herself, however, she will have gained the necessary skills to be successful in the restaurant business and have the start she needs. Our placement of her with an approved restauranter/business will ensure she gets the opportunities to grow and continually develop that would otherwise not be possible. Our team will provide ongoing support as required and mentor her.
