In August 2024, our union organized an event for young volunteers in Dergachi, a front-line town in the Kharkiv district, where children urgently needed social activities and engagement. The event aimed to teach children aged 10 to 17 the fundamentals of volunteering and encourage active participation in community support.
Volunteers and teachers provided first aid training, led an ecology lecture, and organized activities for caring for and feeding homeless animals. The children also received crucial information on mine safety and how to respond to explosive objects near their homes.
Children were introduced to protective gear, such as body armor and helmets, which are essential for volunteers and journalists entering dangerous areas.
The main event was the distribution of humanitarian aid to large families, where children who participated in the League of Young Volunteers course gained experience as real volunteers. Upon completion, they received both volunteer and course completion certificates.
Our organization provided hot meals and sweets for the children throughout the event, which took place in safe conditions.
