This project is the attempt to bring utopia into reality: We want to inspire thousands of girls across Puerto Rico (and the world) the value they hold within and the universe of possibilities they can unlock to take on the world! Often when we talk about women's rights, we isolate and forget about young women and girls. However, if our mission to create change is gonna prosper, we need to start young. We need to make sure our girls wants and needs are heard and validated.
In Puerto Rico, femicide happens 1 every 7 days. The issue of our women's prosperity has been a heated debate in our national sphere, alongside policy that restricts reproductive rights. This grim landscape is one our girls are raised in, risking assimilation of ideals that demean their safety and well-being. Parents and girls are in need of positive reinforcements and tools for the self-empowerment of the next generation of women. Girls need to know the power in their safety and well-being.
A young girl's room is her sanctuary. It is the place where she decompresses, rests, dreams, and learns. We want to be a part of that experience. Channeled through something as simple as a poster, we want to create a national call for advice and wisdom of fellow Puerto Rican women to the girls across our country. We want to bring in the voices of the women leading our country and context into that sanctuary. We want to see women inspiring women, creating manifestos of life.
By equipping parents and girls with these powerful statements and ideas of fulfillment, we can combat the apathy that permeates our national sphere when it comes to women's rights. We can tap the potential right at the source, to inspire our young girls to fight their own fights and inspire themselves to take action and move us forward. We want to create an amplifier for female empowerment. We want to create a blueprint for Puerto Rico and the world, one poster at a time.
