In the early morning hours of Friday, July 4, more than 12 inches of rain inundated Kerr County, Texas, in a very short period of time. This torrential downpour caused the Guadalupe River to surge over 25 feet within 45 minutes, reaching near-record levels at almost 35 feet. There were over 100 fatalities, as many campers along the river, including a local youth camp, were caught completely off guard by the rapidly rising waters. Additionally, the floods caused Kerrville’s water treatment facility to go offline, prompting boil water notices to be issued. Convoy of Hope responded quickly, distributing relief supplies like food, water, cleaning kits, hygiene kits, and more to thousands of people affected by the floods.
Today, Convoy remains actively engaged in serving those in need. In September, we partnered with a local church to hold distributions in Marble Falls, Kerrville, and San Saba. Disaster Services team members distributed 17,800 pounds of food, served over 900 families, and brought hope back to individuals and families on their road to recovery. In total, Convoy of Hope has distributed 570,818 pounds of products and served 29,873 individuals. For additional information about the work of Convoy of Hope, please visit www.convoyofhope.org.
