Construiction of transitional housing in Slams
By Renan Bartalo | Diretor de Recursos
![]()
Last September, we have built about 50 transitional houses in 3 communities in São Paulo, with the joint work of volunteers and residents of the community.
We had more than 500 volunteers involved, working side by side with the families to build not only houses, but also trust to develop other projects to help the whole community, not only a few families.
It was, once again, an unforgettable experience, and perfectly accomplished. Thanks to that weekend, now, 50 families have a better place to call home.
The construction of transitional houses in communities is one of TETO's most important project, not only does it helps to solve an ishue that's clearly urgent, but also, it creates a bond between volunteers and residents, so we can find out what else is urgent for them, what they wish to do for the community and how else can we help.

During the days 7 to 13 of July, volunteers worked together with 30 families to built transitional housing in two different communities in Campinas, São Paulo.
They spent 6 days in complete immersion in a different social reality working together and getting to know these families, their lifestyles, their needs, hopes and dreams, so the volunteers can not only help them with the housing issue, but get to understand in which other ways can we help the community to develop.
TETO works to overcome poverty through the joint work of volunteers and families that live in invisible communities, and the construction of transitional housing is not only a solution to a problem that is urgent, but also helps create a trust link between volunteers and families, so they can work together and find solutions to other problems that the community may have.
