A pioneering project that secures Temporary Housing on a weekly basis for the homeless youth in the streets of Athens. Our Street Work teams daily roam the streets and neighborhoods of the greek capital and provide support through intensive counseling, social and employment advisory for the youth that lives or spends most of their lives on the streets (rough sleepers). Providing Temporary Housing is the foundation of the long journey towards rebuilding their lives, offering them a 2nd chance.
There is absolutely no provision for housing by any government or other public service. The existing facilities account for less than 1% of the total homeless population currently registered in Athens. A humanitarian disaster is looming ahead, due to the constant influx of migrants and/or asylum seekers who have recently flooded the Capital, already heavily strained to the bone by its domestic crisis. Temporary housing facilities would provide an instant relief for this dramatic shortfall.
Providing Temporary housing helps drastically to break the cycle of homelessness, poverty & exclusion. It makes all the difference to rebuilding the lives of those vulnerable young adults who find themselves at risk and is crucial for their empowerment towards a brighter future. All along it allows us to help them gain new skills, in order to pursue their studies or find work and help them with issues, affecting their ability to lead an independent life. Throughout this journey we stand by them.
1. visible decline on social tension manifested through violent incidents 2. strong & trusted relationships between the affected youth & society 3. inclusion of marginalized youth through community work 4. social acceptance of migrant youth as a contributing body in the civic society
