‘Finding The Hope Within!
The emergence of the COVID-19 in 2020, found the world ill prepared for what would prove never before experienced ripple effects from the spread of a disease, a fragmented society with compromised social services , poor infrastructure as well as a global economic disenfranchisement amongst the many challenges faced. A financially difficult year for growth and more so for the implementation of previously planned programmes. Nevertheless and despite the despondency across the world, lockdowns and high cost of living- The NairoBits Trust team successfully managed to re-establish and re-calibrate their mission through a newly and internally driven development strategy , solidifying on a 5 year-Strategic plan (2021-2025), positioning the organization for growth and tangible impact over the next five years.
The development of an intentionally driven and internally owned strategy in 2021- yielded a record 3,000 youth engaged through NairoBits digital literacy, multimedia and video impact training programmes. The revision of the strategy also saw the growth of NairoBits outreach programmes in Mombasa, through 8 partner centers, at least 300 youth engaged in the Action Project , 500 youth engaged through #RightHereRightNow, 700+ youth scholarships for Google certification courses and at least 200 youth placed in microwork and the digital payment pilot phase 1- all in 2021.
In the words of our Executive Director - Magdalene Wanjugu ‘2021 meant going back and building from the basics, combining the bits and pieces that matter leading to our #Bits2TheWorld Vision. The vision presented the ultimate opportunity for impactful engagement and intentional growth and development.
NB’s strategic development model set-out intentional growth plans to increase accessibility for underserved youth living within vulnerable circumstances and within informal settlements by 2022. Recognizing that there is an increasing need for skills and enterprise amongst youth living in Mombasa’s informal settlement heavily contributed to the existing large digital development and self-sufficiency amongst youth between the ages of 15-35 years. Under the umbrella of “We Are Bits” and in keeping the vision ‘#Bits2theWorld”- the Mombasa programme is poised to impact an initial 100 youth , through the digital literacy opportunities and connect them to work and entrepreneurship skills.
We anticipate positive results , based on the organization's success in impacting 100, 000 youth over its 22 year educational, innovative and transformation approach.
