Measurable Impact Around the World
Mozambique: Changing Behaviors Through Radio
In Mozambique, our Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) programs featured radio dramas, teen-led call-in shows, social media, and partnerships with health facilities and mobile units to provide sexual and reproductive health information and family planning services.
- Healthy and Resilient Communities has broadcast live call-in programs, providing listeners with engaging content and safe spaces for dialogue.
- Okhokelamo ni Solha reported that 78% of radio listeners recalled program messages from partner community radio stations.
- Access Without Barriers resulted in a 530% increase in adolescents and youth with disabilities accessing inclusive sexual health services.
Okhokelamo ni Solha
Okhokelamo ni Solha is a five-year initiative implemented by Save the Children to improve health outcomes in Mozambique’s Zambezia province. Since 2020, PCI Media (now doing business as Rising Impact) has led the SBCC component of this program through radio dramas, live radio shows, and community theater.
In 2024, a total of 150 radio programs were produced and broadcast, highlighting the importance of health services, family planning, and SRH for women and girls, as well as maternal and child health, nutrition, and community communication. An external evaluation revealed that:
- 78% of radio listeners recalled key program messages from partner community radio stations.
- 4,156 community members attended performances in collaboration with Mobile Health Brigades to receive health services.
- 4,906 community members accessed family planning services in the targeted intervention areas.
Access Without Barriers
From 2020-2023, PCI Media (now doing business as Rising Impact), in collaboration with Flanders Mozambique, the Mozambican Government, ICRH, TV Surdo, TV Mozambique, Radio Mozambique, and community radio stations, implemented the Access Without Barriers program. This initiative used a Social and Behavior Change (SBC) approach, featuring radio dramas, teen-led call-in shows, social media, and partnerships with health workers. The program also improved facilities and provided mobile health services, educating adolescents, youth, and health professionals about sexual health and social inclusion.
Access Without Barriers resulted in meaningful change for adolescents and youth in Mozambique:
- 530% increase in adolescents and youth with disabilities accessing health services
- 85% of teens gained better understanding of STI testing, contraception, and sexual health
- 95% of health professionals improved their communication with adolescents and youth with disabilities on SRHR topics
