Challenge

The quality of music and physical education is an important factor in the comprehensive and integrated development of children. In China, however, there is still a wide gap between urban and rural areas, with rural primary schools having backward hardware equipment and an extreme shortage of teachers, making it difficult for children to access quality music and physical education, and lacking an environment for comprehensive development.

Solution

The project renovates music classrooms and builds sports fields in rural schools, enhancing children's development through play and professional teaching. Through collaboration between government departments, social organisations and the project's training team, teachers receive professional development to improve the quality of music and sports education, which is crucial for the holistic development of rural children.

Long-Term Impact

Since its 2011 launch, "Onederland for Rural Kids" has expanded to 27 provinces, implementing 1,059 music classrooms, 1,237 sports fields, 776 playgrounds, 37 children's choirs, and over 10,000 teacher training sessions. By 2023, over 1.86 million children benefited from improved music and physical education, fostering holistic development.
