There are many barriers to accessing and completing a quality education in Niger, one of which is the fact that only 62% of primary school teachers have 1 year of post-high school training. Remember Niger works collaboratively with our partner schools and the Ministry of Education to close the gap between minimally trained and high-capacity teachers through our Teach-the-Teacher seminar programming, which impacts over 5,000 students annually.
Niger ranks lowest of all countries in the education dimension of the Human Development Index. Only 51% of children attend primary school and 19% attend secondary school. While many barriers to making quality education for all children in Niger a reality exist, one critical missing component is high-capacity teachers. Only 62% of primary teachers have 1 year of post-high school training, resulting in diminished delivery of high-quality, engaging educational opportunities to students.
Remember Niger works collaboratively with our partner schools and the Ministry of Education to close the gap between minimally trained and high-capacity teachers through our Teach-the-Teacher seminar programming. Annually, since 2021, we provide a 6-day seminar aimed at increasing skills and knowledge around classroom management, lesson planning, pedagogy, critical thinking, integrating parents/families into the learning experience, child protection, technology in the classroom, and more.
Teach-the-Teacher seminars will increase teacher capacity to improve short, intermediate, and long-term educational outcomes for over 5,000 beneficiary students annually.
