Introduction

We will are working with off-grid communities in Nepal to improve the healthcare provided through introducing renewable energy. Getting communities off the grid will allow them to be sustainable and independent, whilst making sure it is affordable for all. We aim to improve the health of over 4,728 community members.

Report

This project equips locals with solar power and electrical equipment for lighting, fans, nebulisers and refrigeration for medicines and vaccines. It will also build the capacity of local artisans to construct and roll-out the use of improved, energy efficient cookstoves, across the communities for cleaner cookstoves and supporting those who are least able to purchase them. It costs this project $44 for one solar panel which runs basic health equipment at a community health centre.

These types of stove are more fuel efficient than traditional cookstoves, can be built and maintained locally, at low cost.

Report

A solar water pumping system was installed in Tanuja village in 2020. She recently told us the difference that it has made to her life and to others in her community.

“We used to go to fetch water at 4 o’clock in the morning. The road to reach the water source is very steep, because of this I once fell down and broke my left hand.”

Tanuja explained that she now has much more free time. Instead of walking a long distance to fetch water, she can access it from a tap stand right outside her house. This means she can spend more time with her children and help them with their studies.

Introduction

Traditional stoves of the kind used by communities, release hazardous pollutants such as carbon monoxide, particulate matter and nitrous oxide. The burning of solid fuels, such as wood, charcoal and animal dung, is a significant and deadly contributor to GHG emissions. Not only is this a health issue it is having a lasting and serious impact on our environment. As well as stoves our community use a number of energy sources in local health clinics that also are releasing high emissions into the world.

We have managed to raise $896 so far, we need $5000 to transition one community into a carbon friendly community.

Introduction

Our environment is in crisis, it is a problem for all of us. In Nepal every year around 8,500 women and children die from the effects of polluting cooking stoves. We will be working with off-grid communities in Surkhet District of Nepal to improve the healthcare provided through introducing renewable energy. Getting communities off the grid will allow them to be sustainable and independent, whilst making sure it is affordable for all. We aim to improve the health of over 4,728 community members

Report

Despite the enormity of the challenges over the last year, our Team has been working tirelessly to ensure our projects and the people they serve, remain on track. This has meant that we’ve been able to continue with our plans to significantly scale-up our projects in Nepal and I’m happy to say we remain on track to achieve our organisational goal of reaching 100,000 people in remote communities with access to renewable energy by 2022.
