Dear Swimmers anf friends,
Hello, my name is Ruvi. I hope you are well. First and foremost I am writing to you to express our gratitude for those who have supported us thus far and to update you about our Swim for Good event.
For the second year in a row it was once again our biggest event. It's truly heartwarming to see how much this event has grown and spread globally compared to last year. Swimmers from seven locations including Lesvos, Athens and Geneva with more than 422 participants joined forces, collectively covering an impressive 82 kilometers. This effort aimed to raise awareness on how the journey people take from Turkey to Lesvos symbolizes fear, uncertainty, and peril in the hopes for a new start and a brighter future.Through the Swim For Good campaign, we wanted to shift the narrative, using the same waters to create solidarity, hope, and action.
In preparation for the event we had swim classes 3 times every week in Lesvos with our coach Kim along with volunteers from around the world coming together on the island to share their swimming expertise. The lessons consisted of adult mixed classes, women only classes and youth classes. All this couldn't have happened without the help of Yusra Mardini. Therefore we want to give a special thank you Yusra Mardini for partnering with us to make this event happen.
This event also secured us with fundraising opportunities. Through GlobalGiving we raised 9,219€ setting us on our way to our goal of 45k, through Becky who used her network to fundraise for us. Lastly, a big thank you to all participants of the Swim for good in Athens , Geneva , Lesvos , Paris , Uganda etc, our amazing team and a special thank you to Yusra Mardini and Becky for making this event possible .
If you wish to participate next year please take a look at our website where you can find more information regarding the event. Thank you for taking the time to read this report . See you next time with more fun news from YSR.
Kind regards
Ruvi
