Swim for Good Planning Report

By Ruvi Matiyenga | Project Coordinator

Dear Swimmers and Supporters,

Swim Program Lesvos
We are currently in the works of preparing for our seasonal Lesvos swimming classes which will be held from the beginning of June to end of September.  These classes offer a supportive and safe environment for our community to re-establish a connection with water. On Lesvos, where swimming lessons are scarce, YSR recognizes the importance of providing sessions to help individuals overcome fear and trauma, fostering water safety skills and a positive relationship with water. The YSR swimming program is a unique trauma-sensitive, learn-to-swim program providing safety, mental and physical health, and a newfound peaceful relationship with water.
We are now trying to find volunteers that have knowledge in safeguarding training, swimming lessons or just want to be around to help out with what is needed.
This program is in partnership with Yusra Mardini Foundation (YMF).  Both YSR  and YMF strive to bridge cultural divides, promote inclusivity and advocate for the rights of displaced people. Together we will increase our positive impact as we are always #StrongerTogether!
YMF is dedicated to advancing access to sports and education for refugee communities around the world, as well as directly supporting refugee athletes.
Swim for good campaign
The Swim for Good campaign is an international swim event where we challenge teams around the world to swim 12km with us! The same distance that more than 10.000 people take yearly from Turkey to Lesvos, crossing the Aegean Sea in search for a better life and safety. In order to raise awareness about the journey, highlight the resilience of displaced people as well as to stand in solidarity with those who have lost their lives in search for a better future. We advocate for safe passageways for displaced people and a humane reception of migrants in Europe!
What will happen during the event?

The event will be held on the Saturday 29th June 2024. The YSR and YMF teams will be swimming on the Island of Lesvos but you can swim from all around the world All you need is a body of water, Join the swim as an individual or with a team and help us raise awareness and stand in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers!
Our current stage for this event is to find volunteers volunteers that have knowledge in safegaurding training, life gaurding, swimming lessons instructor , professional swimmer  or just to be around to provide for whatever might be needed . On linkedin you can find the post for recruitement post as well as on instagram. We are also trying to reach out to journalist throughout Europe.
Lastly I would like to redirect you to our
