Save the Children of Mbale, France, supports the Mbale Child Care Foundation,(MCCF) a home for 50 orphans. MCCF provides basic daily necessities and aims to foster self-reliance through empowerment projects for both the children and the community. Recently, MCCF acquired land, and now we need to rebuild our orphanage complex with sturdy foundations and invest in a permanent home. This will enable us to create programs and expand our sustainability efforts.
According to UNICEF, nearly half of all deaths in children under five are due to undernutrition. Most child abandonment cases stem from vulnerable, single-parent homes. For MCCF, it is a significant challenge to build a permanent, sturdy home on their new land, establish empowerment and vocational projects, and keep the children healthy and educated, while struggling to thrive. Donations received without additional fundraisers only sustain their basic necessities.
Once MCCF sufficiently provides for their children and constructs a sturdy orphanage on the new land, they will be able to invest in agriculture without incurring rental fees. Farming will sustain them and generate revenue from cash crops. This will allow greater investment in empowerment programs, creating skills that lead to viable professions, fostering self-reliance, and reducing child abandonment. This project will transform an impoverished community and promote positive development.
The new land for MCCF offers security and a foundation for growth. By investing in vocational workshops, we will create job opportunities and self-sufficiency for our children and the 300-member community. This will foster self-worth, pride, and reduce child abandonment by strengthening families. Mothers and children will gain self-reliance skills in a safe environment, ensuring long-term sustainability.
