We are thrilled to share the news of our new partnership in Ghana. Under a five-year framework agreement, Project Maji, WaterAid Ghana, and the Bongo District Assembly will work together to design, build, and operate rural water systems while strengthening local governance and long-term service oversight.
The first phase of implementation is progressing in the Bongo District of northern Ghana. Water kiosks have now been installed in the communities of Beo-Tankoo and Atampiisi, marking the completion of the initial construction phase. Together, these installations will serve around 1850 individuals with lifetime access to safe water.
This partnership brings together our collective expertise and shared commitment to alleviating water poverty:
The next stage of implementation is already underway. Site branding is currently being completed, while water quality testing is being finalised ahead of commissioning. Once testing confirms compliance with national standards, we will begin community sensitisation activities and distribute user tokens to households, enabling access to the water kiosks.
Following commissioning, Project Maji and WaterAid Ghana will deliver WASH training in both communities to promote safe water use, good hygiene practices, and long-term community ownership of the services. We look forward to serving more communities through this partnership.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to moving beyond one-off infrastructure delivery toward professionally managed rural water services. By aligning technical delivery with institutional ownership, the partnership aims to ensure that systems remain operational, accountable and financially sustainable over time
