The ‘Sustainability Ambassador Program’ (https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/sustainability-ambassador-program/) was launched as a project of Stichting Ki Culture in September 2020. Coupled with the organization’s ‘Making Culture Sustainable Globally’ project (https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/making-culture-sustainable-globally/) and thanks to the tremendous support of our donors, Ki Culture was able to raise a total of 8,760 Euros! Both projects continue to remain active, and any donations will go a long way in helping Ki Culture achieve its mission of contributing to a sustainable future through the cultural sector.

Sustainability Ambassador Program

The Sustainability Ambassador Program, now rebranded as Ki Futures, provides cultural professionals and institutions across the globe with everything they need to become more sustainable in their jobs. It launches later this month, and has attracted interest from cultural heritage institutions and professionals from six continents!

The Ki Books are ready to go! To be released this month, starting with Waste & Materials on the 11th of January, we are thrilled with how beautifully these incredibly important tools have come together, as well as the amazing feedback we have received from our peers. Robert Janes, Founder of the Coalition of Museums for Climate Justice says of the Social Sustainability Ki Book, "A sort of exuberant awareness and empathy pervade the text." Some of the experts involved in developing the Ki Books include Victoria Burrows (Director, Advancing Net Zero, World Green Buildings Council), Stefania Pandozy (Head of Ethnographic Conservation, The Vatican Museums) and Lia Colabello (Managing Principal, Planet + Purpose Solutions). The Ki Books are free and available for all professionals to use globally. In addition, the launch of the Student Sustainability Ambassador Program by Sustainability in Conservation (SiC), a branch of Ki Culture, took place in October, with students from 22 universities across the globe participating in the Program.

Partnerships

Ki Culture has continued to expand our network and have been creating partnerships with key organizations globally. We are working across sectors to partner with organizations such as We Don’t Have Time and Carbon Lock. Additionally, we have formed important alliances within the sector, working with galleries and fine arts organizations such as Art2Zero and Art 2 Acres. This group has formed an alliance which was mentioned in the NY Press: https://cultbytes.com/galleries-commit-envisions-a-greener-future-for-the-new-york-art-scene/

Additionally, we have formed our own network groups, acting as a coordinator for our colleagues globally to connect all of the incredible organizations working on this topic to facilitate collaboration and cooperation. We are hosting a series of webinars and discussions to address key issues and find solutions that will push global, sector-wide change.

Ki Team

The Ki team is expanding, and now comprises 46 members from 14 countries! Over the past few months, several new members have joined the team from across the globe, including The Netherlands, Italy, India, and the United States.

Ki Culture’s Founder and Executive Director Caitlin Southwick was selected to be a representative for the European Commissions’ Voices of Culture, where she is co-authoring a report on how the European Commission can better support sustainability in culture. She will be presenting the report to the European Commission on behalf of the group on the 11th of February. Caitlin is also currently participating as an expert advisor for We Are Museums’ Museums Facing Extinction program and will be hosting a series of webinars on culture and carbon for the Vastari series “Keep Calm” in February and April.
