GGL boosts female talent for the future

Encuentros virtuales de Talentos 4.0

Last year we had four cohorts with a total of 130 women participating in Talentos 4.0 program. This year in about 3 months we’ve matched these numbers by engaging +120 women in 3 cohorts, between ages 18 to 55 from more than 12 countries, who are currently enrolled in tech courses such as Python for Data Science and AI, Programming for Everybody, Project Management, Web Development, Innovation, Big Data, and many others, combined with some power skills courses such as entrepreneurship, self-leadership, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence.

Over this short period, we’ve had Workshops in entrepreneurship with companies like VISA which led us to start a new alliance with a business training platform called ENKO, where users can take lessons in areas like marketing, self-development, sales, finances, and others. We’ve also had a 21-day challenge on self-management and neuroscience which allowed us to fully engage the community and improve their performance on the program within a shorter time.

What’s to come:

Upcoming on the agenda for the next two months, we’ll have conferences on effective communication with a communication coach, inspiring talks on how women can lead the Tech Industry with INNOVECS, and Financial Inclusion Workshops with VISA.

This year we’ll also be starting testing a 1:1 mentorship program with members of two of the 6 cohorts of the year, with the objective that the participants can be heard, guided, and inspired by men or women who are currently working in the tech industry in important tech companies and can display challenges and more intimate guidance on their process.

Important facts:

For International Women’s Day, we engaged with Cabify, a transportation platform where they would donate 1% of their earnings during that day to Geek Girls LatAm to grant scholarships to 30 women.

Powerful partnerships lead to a broader impact

Talentos 4.0 Quebec

We are very happy to share with all our potencial donor community at GlobalGiving our results from one of our powerful partnerships in 2022 that led us to impact more than 100 female college students form STEM carrers belonging to 16 universitites in Colombia.

Our program TALENTOS 4.0 is our program for upskilling and reskilling as a result of the alliance between Coursera HQ and Geek Girls LatAm for virtual training and strengthening of knowledge in the areas of STEAM, soft skills, business and languages for young Latin American women in the careers of the future or also called 4.0 careers, where we seek to increase the percentage of female workers in the technology industry, which at the moment is barely 15%.

During 2022, we had the great honor to be sponsored by Quebec Government to impact the professional path of college students of STEM carreers to support their growth and confidence leadership and technical spheres. Addicionally, our students had the opportunity to receive training in employability focused on Quebec labor system in order for them to apply for current positions in this province.

This cohort consisted of 13 weeks of virtual training and mentoring, and it also included a cultural overview of Canada, and especially Quebec from April 7th to June 26th.

With a total of 130 women between the ages of 16 and 45, who achieved 270 certifications on the Coursera platform among 4.0 Technologies such as Data Science, Machine Learning, Programming, Artificial Intelligence, UX Design, Agile Methodologies, and others, as well as certifications in soft skills such as self-leadership, emotion management, leadership and languages such as English and French.

Addicionally to this cohort, this porgram also runs three more cohorts and in total, during this year, the participants of Talentos 4.0 were mentored and accompanied by the GGL team, by Big Sisters and by the community itself. In addition to this, there was an agenda of +14 events including technical workshops and personal branding workshops, #GGTalks talks with women role models in the Tech world, among other activities and challenges.

Important alliances were achieved with the government of Québec, Canada and Acreditta, as well alliances with Google, BITSO, Manpower, INNOVECS and Frontech for community actions.

Estamos muy contentas de compartir con toda nuestra comunidad de donantes potenciales en GlobalGiving nuestros resultados de una de nuestras poderosas alianzas en 2022 que nos llevó a impactar a más de 100 estudiantes universitarias de carreras STEM pertenecientes a 16 universidades en Colombia.

Nuestro programa TALENTOS 4.0 es nuestro programa de upskilling y reskilling fruto de la alianza entre Coursera HQ y Geek Girls LatAm para la formación virtual y fortalecimiento de conocimientos en las áreas de STEAM, soft skills, negocios e idiomas para jóvenes latinoamericanas en las carreras del futuro o también llamadas carreras 4.0, donde buscamos aumentar el porcentaje de mujeres trabajadoras en la industria tecnológica, que en este momento es apenas del 15%.

Durante 2022, tuvimos el gran honor de ser patrocinados por el Gobierno de Quebec para impactar la trayectoria profesional de los estudiantes universitarios de carreras STEM para apoyar su crecimiento y confianza en el liderazgo y las esferas técnicas. Adicionalmente, nuestros estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de recibir capacitación en empleabilidad enfocada en el sistema laboral de Quebec para que puedan postularse a los puestos actuales en esta provincia.

Esta cohorte consistió en 13 semanas de capacitación y tutoría virtual, y también incluyó una descripción general cultural de Canadá, y especialmente de Quebec, del 7 de abril al 26 de junio.

Con un total de 130 mujeres entre 16 y 45 años, quienes lograron 270 certificaciones en la plataforma Coursera entre Tecnologías 4.0 como Data Science, Machine Learning, Programación, Inteligencia Artificial, Diseño UX, Metodologías Ágiles, entre otras, así como certificaciones en habilidades blandas como autoliderazgo, manejo de emociones, liderazgo e idiomas como inglés y francés.

Además de esta cohorte, este programa también tiene tres cohortes más y en total, durante este año, los participantes de Talentos 4.0 fueron asesorados y acompañados por el equipo de GGL, por Big Sisters y por la propia comunidad. Sumado a esto, hubo una agenda de +14 eventos que incluyeron talleres técnicos y talleres de marca personal, charlas #GGTalks con mujeres referentes en el mundo Tech, entre otras actividades y desafíos.

Se lograron importantes alianzas con el gobierno de Québec, Canadá y Acreditta, así como alianzas con Google, BITSO, Manpower, INNOVECS y Frontech para acciones comunitarias.
