Kidney disease is a silent crisis in Ethiopia, where thousands face death due to unaffordable dialysis and lack of medical care. Each dialysis session costs up to $100, far beyond the reach of most families. The "Hope for Life" project will subsidize dialysis treatments, provide essential medicines, support nutrition, and strengthen hospital services across six regions. This 5-year initiative will save lives, improve quality of care, and bring hope to kidney patients and their families.
Dialysis costs are unaffordable for most Ethiopians (average income <$2/day). Limited dialysis machines and long waiting lists at referral hospitals. Many patients die prematurely due to lack of access to treatment. High prevalence of diabetes & hypertension increases kidney disease cases.
Over 5 years, this project will: Provide 20,000 subsidized dialysis sessions for 2,000 patients. Supply essential medicines and consumables to dialysis centers. Support nutrition programs for 5,000 kidney patients. Screen 100,000 people for early kidney disease risks. Train 1,000 caregivers and establish support networks.
Expected Long-Term Impact by 2031 2,000 kidney patients receive life-saving dialysis. 20,000 dialysis sessions subsidized. 100,000 people screened for kidney disease risks. 5,000 families supported with nutrition and medicine. Reduced kidney-related deaths and suffering in Ethiopia.
