Beyond Limits: A Challenge for the Next Generation

It is at the heart of the Foundation to EMPOWER, NURTURE and MENTOR young people, equipping them with skills and 'tools' so that they can reach their highest potentials whatever that may entail for each individual.

Thus our programs and activities always gear toward these clear goals in all we do and plan.

This year we were able to gather 142 campers for our Leadership camps, with the Theme: Beyond Limits -  A  Challenge for the Next Generation. The need to instill resilence and courage in our Thai youngsters and youth caused the  Foundation to focus on this aspect for our training.

Activities to test endurance like footdrill followed by a competition among campers, were meant to assess their ablilities to withstand stresses in life.
Lessons on leadership styles and methods, were to equip our young leaders to be conscious of the needs of the team and to be exemplary in their lives so that they would be people of integrity that care for others.
Other topics like the 2nd Habit of "Beginning with the End in Mind", use of the "6 Thinking Hats" to help spark ideas for our coming anniversary next year, plus a big game where campers are to distinguish between truth and fake voices in making decisions for themselves.

The highlight of the camp was when everyone had an opportunity to overcome their fear of heights by jumping off a tower, during the flying fox activity. Almost everyone had a story to tell when they were placed at the edge of the tower, before their leap into the air.

"Before I jumped, I wanted to get off the edge, as my legs were shaking and heart almost stopped!" exclaimed Fon, " but after I made the jump, I know that I can go Beyond my Limits, to reach the stars!!"

The young leaders were also taught that in order for them to overcome addictions, bad habits and negative thoughts, they have to make a firm decision to desist it in the first place, and to make a 180 degree turn from their original path.
After the camp, Mew (not her real name) reported, "I used to self-inflict harm to myself, but after making the decision to change, and keep on practising good habits, I have so far been much better"

It was news of these life-changing acts that has encouraged the Foundation to keep on keeping on, for the benefit of children and youths in our generation and the next, so that they may go Beyond Limits, for the betterment of themselves and the society they live in.

Leadership has its Challenges

As leaders in the Foundation catering to the development of Children and Youths, some hundred plus of us are fully aware that Children and Youths of Today are so different from us as adult leaders when we were growing up, in terms of the changed environment of the present world.

The presence of digital, instant information and the expanse of knowledge (both good and bad) bombard our young every second of their waking lives. At the same time, the COVID pandemic has segregated the human 'touch' and contact in our relationships, making young people lacking in social skills that develop when children gather to play in schools and with neighbors. This has triggered a number of mental stresses on people, especially the young.

Therefore the Foundation felt it was timely to conduct an in-depth training for our Volunteers who have the passion to minister to our Children and Youths, featuring how we should twig our Leadership Skills to cater to them, leading in a way that is caring, showing tough love, with the aim to develop them into a self-disciplined, reverent, caring and responsible global citizens.

We were fortunate to have an expert trainer PP, to help us be aware of our present leadership styles and to realize that there are certain Leadership Challenges that we have to address, IF we want to IMPACT those we care for, in order to adapt to their needs. Our Volunteers Leaders had an insightful experience, which was both meaningful, fun and helped us to relate better to each other.

As a way to relax and instill fun, an outdoor ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) adventure was also organized for our trainees, as our Foundation believes in developing the WHOLE person, in Knowledge, Spiritually, Physically and Emotionally to Serve our local communities.

Ms Wan said, "Before coming to the training, I did not know what to expect, but having been here for the past few days, I realize that there is much to learn and I feel EMPOWERED, and have ENJOYED this training immensely!"

"I will use what I have learned to hone my leadership skills to help those I lead." Ka declared.

Other than addressing the Challenges that Leaders face, the Training also sought the help of Volunteers to help initiate a Curriculum to engage young Thais to learn English as 2nd Language through use of games.

We were also Challenged to revisit our initial Visions and Passions that have brought us together to serve the young. A call for re-dedication to our initial calling was made and the Volunteers re-committed to that call in a closing ceremony.
