In North Kivu, young people continue to live with the consequences of years of conflict, mistrust, displacement, and limited opportunities. These challenges can leave youth vulnerable to manipulation, violence, and recruitment by armed groups. Support Youth Peace in DR Congo Today was designed to respond to this reality by creating safe spaces where young people from different communities can meet, listen to one another, develop conflict-resolution skills, and become active leaders for peace, democracy, and social cohesion.
The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. We are identifying qualified trainers and potential youth participants who will take part in dialogue forums, leadership sessions, and conflict-resolution workshops. The project has a total funding target of US$45,000, and no funds had yet been raised at the time of this update. Through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we are strengthening our fundraising outreach and believe we can move closer to reaching the resources needed to implement the project effectively. The activities are planned to begin in November 2025, subject to the availability of the required resources.
Our goal is not simply to organize workshops, but to help build a generation of young peace leaders capable of carrying dialogue beyond the training room and into their communities. Every contribution can help create a safe space for dialogue, support practical peacebuilding training, and enable young people to lead local actions that rebuild trust. We sincerely thank GlobalGiving and all our current and future donors for believing in the potential of young people in North Kivu. We invite donors, partners, and friends of peace to stand with us and support this initiative. Together, we can help young people choose dialogue over violence and contribute to a more peaceful and stable future in DR Congo and the wider Great Lakes region.
