Resilience in Adversity: Fundacion JUCONI's Commit

In the months following our last report, the situation of violence worsened in the Socio Vivienda II due to a confrontation between two criminal gangs that are present in the community. This violent scene left several casualties, including the heartbreaking loss of a child. This event led to the militarization of the neighborhood and heightened insecurity, deeply affecting the lives of the residents and our ongoing work. Consequently, some families were temporarily displaced due to fear, however, they are expected to return for the beginning of the school year in may.

Despite these challenges, Fundación JUCONI has remained steadfast in its mission to support children, families, and communities. Recognizing the need for continuity in our interventions, we adapted quickly to the circumstances by initiating virtual workshops for both parents and children to give them support and tools to process their emotions. These sessions provided a vital space for guidance, emotional support, and the continuation of essential activities designed to promote their well-being.

As the situation began to stabilize, albeit slowly, we have progressively returned to in-person activities, prioritizing safety for our beneficiaries and staff. These sessions are now held in secure locations and focus on providing children with engaging workshops while also offering critical support to families. Furthermore, JUCONI continues to deliver monthly food baskets, ensuring that families have access to basic needs during these trying times.

Even amidst the prevailing violence and insecurity, Fundación JUCONI refuses to give up on its mission. We remain committed to offering every family the tools and opportunities needed to break free from the cycles of violence that have long impacted their lives. Our unwavering dedication serves as a beacon of hope, empowering children and families to envision and strive toward a brighter and more peaceful future.
