Vision Zero Continuing Efforts

By Colin Heyne | SVBC Deputy Director

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition’s Vision Zero initiative continues to promote a new approach to traffic safety across San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Since our last report, SVBC has continued reaching out to city agencies, public committees and commissions, and other community groups to explain our Vision Zero Toolkit and advocate for an end to roadway deaths and major injuries. On May 7, we partnered with California Walks and the San Mateo County Public Health System to present a Vision Zero overview at the TransForm Let’s Get Moving! Summit, hosted at Microsoft in Mountain View.

SVBC staff are also now working with City of San José staff on that specific Vision Zero program. To date, we have completed 14 safety assessments of the city’s Priority Safety Corridors. We are now in the process of fulfilling 12 outreach events and beginning to draft a two-year action plan, with completion scheduled for September.
