Msichana Empowerment Kuria will reach 250 girls at risk of being subjected to Female Genital Mutilation(FGM) in Kuria East & West, south western rural,Kenya in October,November &December. FGM is a harmful cut of the girls genitalia which has immediate & lifelong health complications.We need support deliver basic essentials to girls rescued from FGM in our safe shelter this number increases daily & transport to reach the most vulnerable girls.
Every year nearly 1000 girls below the age of 18 in the Kuria community are at risk of being subjected to FGM.This harmful cut on the girls genitalia exposes the girls to immediate risks like over bleeding ,shock & even death a times &long term health risks like anxiety&trauma,complications in childbearing,scars . Despite the ban on FGM as a Human Rights violation girls continue to face the pain of the blade. Recently COVID-19 has exacerbated the risk of FGM on girls due to closure of schools.
Msichana Empowerment Kuria will make village visits to reach 250 girls across Kuria East & West & support girls rescued from FGM & deliver basic essentials like food & toiletries to girls rescued from FGM and currently in a our safe shelter for 4 weeks.
The project will reach 250 girls at risk of Female Genital Mutilation( FGM) allowing them & families to make positive choices of stopping FGM in turn improving their health & general well-being. We will continue to support these girls and families as role models/champions in their communities to reach out to their peers to also make positive choices of ending FGM which will in turn keep girls safe from harm of FGM in the community.
