“When I came to Poland due to the war in Ukraine in March 2022, I did not know Polish at all. Over two years, I managed to learn Polish to level B2.”
Oleksandra is a 43-year-old Ukrainian living in Warsaw with her children. When she first arrived in Poland, she felt muted and deaf as she could not communicate in Polish. This meant she could not find a job or carry out normal day-to-day activities such as reading books and watching TV. About her experience at Pontes, she tells us:
“What Pontes does – helping with integration – is very important and useful. It truly helps women who have come to Poland and are forced to start from scratch. You are incredible!”
“Thanks to Pontes, I passed the exam at the Chamber of Physicians and Dentists, received a certificate, and now can work as a doctor. Now I can freely speak Polish. It’s an incredible feeling of confidence and freedom of choice when you can explain what you need and what you disagree with, rather than just nodding and staying silent because you don't understand what is being said and don’t know how to explain what you need.”
“I am incredibly grateful to Pontes and WONDER for the financial help and support during this difficult period for me. THANK YOU!!!”
