The war in Ukraine is now in its fourth year. For the women and children who fled to Poland, it is no longer a short-term stay.
Working with our local partner Pontes, the programme offers Polish language classes, psychological support, career coaching, mentoring, community events and children's clubs. Women are finding work, gaining confidence in spoken Polish, getting to grips with hospitals and government offices. Children are joining clubs and settling into routines.
Natalia, 35, came to Poland with her two daughters and started attending Pontes events as a participant. She took courses, built her confidence, then ran an online wellbeing webinar for Ukrainian women, her first time presenting publicly. "Before Pontes, I didn't do it. It was a little scary. Thanks to the team for their support and belief in me." She now works as a project coordinator, helping others integrate as she did. "Every day I consult and learn from people and their stories at the same time. With this project, I gained even more faith in myself and the desire to work for the benefit of people."
To those who fund the programme, she says this: "This funding helps many to realise their dreams, or just to believe that they exist and can influence their destiny and that they are not alone. Can anything be more than giving faith and hope to a person? In my opinion, no."
Thank you for making stories like Natalia's possible.
